Our client is hiring a Traffic Engineer for a newly created position. This role will lead the Engineering Department's Operations Division and focus on optimizing the city's transportation system for safety, mobility, and accessibility. Key responsibilities include:
• Leading major traffic projects: Signal retiming, smart traffic system evaluation, transit route development, corridor studies, and implementing the Safe Streets and Roads for All Action Plan.
• Managing traffic operations: Investigating inquiries, coordinating traffic control changes, and ensuring equitable and sustainable transportation.
• Overseeing staff: Managing data collection, technical evaluations, and right-of-way usage.
• Contributing to project reviews: Assisting with capital projects, private development, and transportation planning.
• Supporting the Engineering Department's mission: Ensuring high-quality work, ethical standards, and collaboration.
Required Education and Licensing:
• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field.
• Must be a registered Professional Engineer (PE) with at least one year of traffic engineering experience, or an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with two years, or have ten years of traffic engineering experience.
• Ability to obtain an Indiana PE license within six months of hire.
• Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification preferred.
Required Experience and Skills:
• Experience in public service and staff supervision preferred.
• Strong knowledge of transportation engineering and planning principles.
• Proficiency in traffic analysis and simulation programs, and AutoCAD.
• Familiarity with intelligent transportation systems, traffic signals, and work zone safety.
• IMSA certifications or ability to obtain within one year desired.
• INDOT ERC certification or ability to obtain within one year.
• Project and consultant/contractor management skills.
• Record keeping and report writing abilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, and GIS software.
• Asset management software experience is a benefit.
