Short Description:

A Technical Sales Engineer is responsible for combining technical expertise with sales acumen to identify customer needs and recommend appropriate products or solutions. They collaborate with engineering and sales teams to develop proposals, deliver product demonstrations, and support customers through the technical aspects of the sales process. The role involves analyzing requirements, providing technical guidance, and ensuring successful product integration or implementation. Technical Sales Engineers act as the link between clients and product development teams to ensure customer satisfaction and long-term relationships. Strong communication, problem-solving, and technical knowledge are essential for success in this role.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary technical liaison between the sales team and customers, providing expert guidance on product capabilities and technical solutions
  • Develop a deep understanding of customer needs, specifications, and challenges to recommend appropriate products or system configurations
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations, product demonstrations, and proposals that clearly communicate value propositions and ROI
  • Collaborate with engineering, product development, and marketing teams to customize solutions and ensure customer requirements are met
  • Support the sales cycle by drafting technical documentation, quotes, and contracts that align with client specifications and budgets
  • Conduct site visits, system evaluations, and feasibility analyses to assess technical compatibility and project requirements
  • Respond to RFQs, RFPs, and technical inquiries with accurate and timely information
  • Gather customer feedback and market intelligence to inform product improvements and identify new business opportunities
  • Assist with installation, testing, or troubleshooting of products when needed to ensure customer satisfaction and post-sale support
  • Maintain relationships with key clients, ensuring consistent follow-up, technical support, and long-term account growth

Skills / Requirements / Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, technical sales, or a related field such as mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering required
  • Experience: 3–6 years of experience in technical sales, applications engineering, or product support in a relevant industry
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of product design, manufacturing processes, and technical specifications relevant to the company’s offerings
  • Sales Skills: Proven ability to manage the full sales cycle, from prospecting and qualifying leads to closing deals
  • Communication: Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills for conveying complex technical information to non-technical audiences
  • Customer Focus: Strong problem-solving and consultative approach to building relationships and providing tailored solutions
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to evaluate technical requirements, pricing structures, and system performance metrics
  • Tools & Software: Proficiency with CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce), CAD tools, and Microsoft Office Suite
