Short Description:

The Molecular Physicist has considerable knowledge of current biological, microbiological, chemical, biochemical, or molecular laboratory practices related to a GLP environment. Additionally, significant understanding of scientific principles and application to laboratory testing, methods, instrumentation, and quality-related methodologies.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Perform accurate and precise testing according to established procedures in Molecular Microbiology.
  • Interpret data resulting from Molecular assays and determine the validity of test results.
  • Maintain accurate computerized records of valid test results according to established procedures.
  • Perform necessary quality control procedures, properly evaluate control data, and implement and document corrective action as needed.
  • Record all needed information and write up study results as required by contracts with clients.
  • Write scientific reports (abstracts, posters) when needed.
  • Operate, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot all instrumentation and equipment used in the performance of job duties.
  • Organize work according to laboratory priorities and complete assigned responsibilities with little supervision.
  • Assist other laboratories and department employees as necessary.
  • Observe all safety measures; keep the work area clean and safe.
  • Communicate with supervisor and co-workers promptly when any problems arise.
  • Train other employees as needed.
  • Review pertinent microbiology literature, particularly regarding molecular biology and its antimicrobial susceptibility and resistance.
  • Make recommendations regarding new technologies enhancing IHMA's competitive position in molecular diagnostics.
  • Support the Molecular Microbiology Laboratory and IHMA Laboratories as a whole
