An Air/Sea Logistics Agent, often working in the field of logistics and supply chain management, is responsible for coordinating the transportation and distribution of goods via air and sea cargo. These professionals play a critical role in ensuring that products and materials are shipped efficiently, cost-effectively, and in compliance with regulations. They work closely with shipping carriers, customs agencies, and clients to facilitate the smooth movement of cargo.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the shipment of goods via air and sea cargo, including booking cargo space, arranging pickups, and managing delivery schedules.
  • Prepare and process necessary shipping documentation, including bills of lading, customs forms, and export permits.
  • Collaborate with carriers, freight forwarders, and customs brokers to ensure the timely and secure transportation of goods.
  • Monitor and track cargo shipments, providing real-time updates to clients and stakeholders.
  • Resolve any shipping or customs-related issues, such as delays, damaged goods, or regulatory compliance problems.
  • Communicate with clients to provide shipment status, answer inquiries, and address concerns.
  • Negotiate rates with carriers and optimize shipping costs while maintaining service quality.
  • Stay informed about industry regulations and compliance requirements, including customs regulations, trade agreements, and import/export restrictions.
  • Maintain accurate records of shipments and associated documentation for auditing and reporting purposes.
  • Provide logistics solutions and recommendations to enhance supply chain efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Skills / Requirements / Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; some employers may require a bachelor's degree in logistics or a related field.
  • Shipping Procedures: Knowledge of air and sea cargo transportation, international shipping procedures, and customs regulations.
  • Organiztion: Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to manage multiple shipments and documents.
  • Communication: Excellent communication and negotiation skills for liaising with clients, carriers, and customs officials.
  • Logistics: Proficiency in logistics and supply chain management software, as well as Microsoft Office applications.
  • Problem-Solving: Problem-solving abilities to address shipping and customs challenges.
  • Compliance: Familiarity with Incoterms (international commercial terms) and trade compliance regulations.
  • Certifications: Experience in logistics or a related field is advantageous, and certifications like Certified International Shipping and Receiving (CISR) can be beneficial.
